Sittingbourne Adults Education Centre

Sittingbourne Adults Education Centre

Client: Kent County Council / Kier
Project: Change of use from offices to adult education centre.
Location: London Road Trading Estate, Sittingbourne

The client had recently leased an existing office unit that required a change of use to an adult education centre.  The new layout needed to provide adult education teaching class rooms, general administration and management offices for the adult education centre plus hot desks for sixty council staff.

The works were let to Kier under the Scape Minor Works Framework and the main fit out package was secured by Logic CP.

The works included forming a new structural opening and lift shaft for an accessible platform lift, demolition of existing partitions to suit the new layout, construction of new partitions, decorations, flooring and provision of IT work stations.

The upgrade of the thermal performance of the building fabric was required for Building Control compliance as the usage was subject to a planning application for the change of use.

The emergency exit strategy for the change of use necessitated the provision of an accessible access route from the rear of the unit which was incorporated into the works.

The mechanical and electrical packages were let directly by the client and Logic CP liaised with these trades in a collaborative manner to ensure that the project ran smoothly and without delays.

The works were completed in the contract period and within the client’s budget.
